Sunderland Association Football Club, AKA "The Black Cats" were founded in 1879, playing mainly in the Stadium of Light. The Stadium held the highest number of spectators when the team played against Liverpool in April 2002. The stadium is known for its large size, being able to hold 49,000. Even Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium could not exceed this number of people until their 1996 expansion. Competing against Premier League teams such as Chelsea and Arsenal has proved difficult for teams like Sunderland, but they still remain a relevant team in the Premier League, and have excellent players and loyal fans who support them. The club signed Adam Johnson from Manchester City in 2012 for a 4 year contract for £10 million, which clearly improved the team's playing and strategy. Are you curious yet?
