Liverpool is one of the most popular and honored football clubs in England. Liverpool FC had won more cups in Europe and in England than any other English football clubs had. Five European cups, three UEFA cups, three UEFA super cups, 18 league titles, and many more - a record number of cups for an English team. The best years of the club were the 70's and 80's, when it won 11 league titles and seven European cups. In 2005, the club made its comeback and won the UEFA Champions League final, after beating Inter Milan from Italy. The club has a long time rivalry against both Manchester United and Everton, which only contributes to the fact that the team is the eighth most valuable football club in the world (in 2015).

The 80's were good years for the club football wise; however it was a horrible decade in all other aspects. In 1985, 39 fans, mostly from Juventus, lost their life after they were pressed against a collapsing wall in Heysel stadium. Four years later, in 1989, 96 Liverpool fans died, and 766 other were injured in a crush against the fence in Hillsborough stadium. After the disaster, the manager Kenny Dalgish resigned, and with the management of Graeme Souness, the team luck went downhill, only to be gained back in 2001, under the guidance of Gérard Houllier. At the first years of the 21st century, the team had many difficulties, but never lost its glamour.
