On August 24, 1963, something happened in West Germany - the new Premier German League, the Bundesliga, set out. 16 teams were selected from four districts of the Uberlega, the top league at the time. Some of the teams that opened the league spent only a short time in it, then forgotten from the football fans' memory. Others are an integral part of the Bundesliga's infrastructure today. Hamburg is the only team to play at the German Bundesliga since its inception, and Bayern Munich won 21 Championships, more than any other team in Germany. Karl Heinz Korbel, a former Eintracht Frankfurt player, has 602 appearances and Gerd Miller, Bayern Munich's memorable winner, is the all-time top scorer with a number of conquests for every day of the year - 365. |

Today, the German Bundesliga is considered one of the strongest football leagues in the world and ranks second in the UEFA table, right after the Spanish League, but it had some truly rough moments through its history. The first major crisis, the manipulation scandal of 1971, had lasting effects. The fans stayed home and the money did not flow. In 1973, they debated with the idea of splitting the league into two groups of nine, in order to save travel costs. Fortunately, the proposal was rejected. From the end of the 1980s, the situation of the German league improved, especially following the reunification of Germany and German television rights, when in the 1990s it had already won many devout fans, who accompany it to this day. |
